LEARN CHESS BY MAKING MOVES

Explore 72 interactive lessons across Foundations, Rules, Openings, Tactics, Strategy and Endgames. Follow animated examples and clear, gently pulsing board highlights, compare ideas, then solve a fresh position on your own. Zoom into the illustrated skill tree and choose your next available lesson.

New to chess? Start with the board and pieces. Already playing? Placement challenges help establish what you know. Prove skills to open new paths, with later practice building mastery. Your existing accomplishments stay credited.

DAILY CHESS PUZZLES

Solve Pawn, Knight and Queen puzzles: checkmate in one, two and three moves. Take on the optional mate-in-five Challenger. Revisit saved puzzle days, replay solutions and follow your progress. Eligible daily times and Challenger wins have their own Game Center leaderboards.

PLAY OFFLINE, ONLINE OR TOGETHER

Practice against three offline bot levels. Share one device for pass-and-play or connect through Nearby. Challenge Game Center friends in correspondence games or live matches with 10 minutes per player. A friendly turn nudge is available when eligible. Nine reaction packs include five free collections, with sounds and mute controls.

REVIEW GAMES AND STUDY PGN

Turn finished games into practice. Review recorded moves, compare a searched alternative and retry useful positions. Save positions for personal practice and connect them to lessons. Local guidance works offline.

Keep active matches, saved games and imported PGNs in separate collections. Import PGN to study and replay, or export the moves from a finished or unfinished saved game to share. On Mac, use a spacious review workspace with compact playback controls and concise explanations.

MAKE THE BOARD YOURS

Start with Pastel Garden or Classic Clarity. Browse optional character sets and reaction packs. All Access includes purchasable sets, player logos and reaction packs, with permanent, restorable purchases across supported platforms.

Prove all 72 skills to earn Everbloom Sovereigns, an exclusive White-and-Black set with its own capture effects. This reward is earned through learning and is separate from purchases.

YOUR CHESS PROGRESS

Explore achievements, player logos, statistics and illustrated leaderboards in Profile. Overall and recurring-period Game Center win totals are separate from puzzle scores; they are not chess ratings.

Optional private iCloud sync carries progress, learning records and saved game insights. Puzzle insight responses stay on this device. Export, deletion and cache controls keep you in charge. Dark appearance, larger text and Reduce Motion support help you play comfortably.

Requires iOS/iPadOS 18 or macOS 15 or later. Local play and lessons need no Pawnpetal account. Game Center play requires internet access. Optional Apple Intelligence depends on supported devices, languages and system availability. Engine analysis can miss stronger moves.
