A new leak claims Apple's foldable iPhone Ultra will pack vapor chamber cooling
Apple's first foldable iPhone, expected to be called the "iPhone Ultra," will reportedly feature vapor chamber cooling and remain on track for a September launch despite ongoing production difficulties

Apple's first foldable iPhone, expected to be called the "iPhone Ultra," will reportedly feature vapor chamber cooling and remain on track for a September launch despite ongoing production difficulties, according to a known leaker.
The claim comes from the Weibo leaker known as "Fixed Focus Digital," who posted on the device's status earlier today.
The leaker said the foldable iPhone's manufacturing processes ahead of final assembly are facing pressure and that the initial production ramp is proving difficult, but added that prevailing speculation still points to the original September timeline holding. T
he leaker also teased that further positive news was expected the following day.

Vapor Chamber Cooling
According to the report, the iPhone Ultra will use vapor chamber cooling, and its thermal performance is said to be "quite impressive," with Apple reportedly going all out on the device's thermal engineering.
This marks the first time a source has attributed vapor chamber cooling to the foldable iPhone, and the detail is notable given the compromises the device is expected to make elsewhere. The iPhone Ultra is rumored to fold down to roughly 4.5mm, and that thinness has been blamed for a long list of omitted features.
The iPhone Air, which follows a similar ultra thin philosophy, does not include vapor chamber cooling. Its absence on that model made the feature far from a given on the even thinner iPhone Ultra before today's report.

What the iPhone Ultra Could Be Missing
Earlier rumors suggested the iPhone Ultra could be missing at least five features found on the iPhone 17 Pro, largely as a consequence of its folded thickness.
Those reportedly include Face ID, a telephoto camera, MagSafe, the Action button, and a physical SIM card slot. The device is expected to use Touch ID in place of Face ID.

How Apple's Vapor Chamber Works
Apple overhauled the thermal design of the iPhone 17 Pro last year, adopting a vapor chamber cooling system in an iPhone for the first time.
The system circulates a small amount of deionized water to move heat away from the A19 Pro chip and spread it across the device's aluminum unibody frame. Apple said the design delivers 40% better sustained performance for demanding tasks compared to the graphite thermal systems used in previous Pro models.
Production Difficulties
Today's post arrives amid a run of production difficulty reports tied to the foldable iPhone.
Earlier this month, Fixed Focus Digital pointed to yield problems at the stage before final assembly, related to surface mount technology.
That account was separate from a report by the leaker known as "Instant Digital," which attributed the difficulties to the hinge failing Apple's quality control standards under prolonged, high frequency opening and closing.
Fixed Focus Digital pushed back on that framing, suggesting the hinge was not the main source of the trouble.
The leaker also reported in April that price negotiations with Apple's assembly partner were a potentially disruptive factor.
DigiTimes reported in April that production was already running roughly one to two months behind schedule, while still maintaining that a fall 2026 launch remained on track, with mass production planned to begin in July.
Launch Timing
Despite the reported setbacks, the launch window does not appear to be at risk.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported in April that the iPhone Ultra is on track for a September debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, though he noted the timing was not final and that production had yet to ramp up.
The foldable iPhone is expected to feature a 7.8 inch inner display, a 5.5 inch cover display, the A20 chip, the C2 modem, Touch ID, and two rear cameras. Pricing is rumored to start at around $2,000.
