Apple's Camera app is in line for a significant overhaul in iOS 27, with users able to choose which controls appear in the interface and where they sit, according to a new report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

The change is part of a broader set of user interface updates Apple is preparing for its next iPhone software release, which is expected to be previewed at WWDC on June 8.

What's Changing

Under the new approach, the Camera app will continue to launch with the familiar default layout, including quick toggles for flash, Live Photos, and Night Mode. However, users will be able to switch to a new "advanced" layout or build their own from a tray of options.

Camera controls are reportedly being treated as widgets that sit along the top of the interface. According to the report, users will pull these widgets from a transparent "Add Widgets" tray that slides up from the bottom of the app. The widgets are said to be organized into categories such as basic, manual, and settings.

Available controls are expected to include flash, exposure, the timer, resolution, depth of field, and Photographic Styles.

Each Mode Gets Its Own Setup

Different capture modes will reportedly have their own independent sets of widgets. Photo mode's advanced options are said to include depth of field and exposure controls, with Photographic Styles and the timer available as additional widgets.

The customizable interface will also extend to a new Siri camera mode that Bloomberg previously reported is coming to the app. That mode is expected to offer visual intelligence features integrated directly into the shooting experience.

Part of a Broader iOS 27 Refresh

The Camera changes are one piece of a wider design pass in iOS 27, which Gurman reports will include Liquid Glass refinements, a redesigned Safari start page with four tabs at the top, tweaks to the Weather app, and a cleaner Image Playground interface.

Siri is also undergoing what Bloomberg describes as its most significant transformation yet, with the assistant moving into the Dynamic Island and gaining a chat style conversation view.

Apple introduced Liquid Glass with iOS 26 last year, and the company is now said to be refining the design language across both iOS and macOS after some user feedback about readability.

iOS 27 is expected to be previewed at WWDC 2026, which begins on June 8, with a public release likely in the fall alongside the next iPhone lineup. Apple has not commented on the report.
