Apple TV has announced that Karen Gillan is joining the cast of its hit comedy drama "Shrinking" for the show's upcoming fourth season.

The streamer confirmed the news in a post on X, writing that "Shrinking's circle is expanding." According to Variety, which first reported the casting, Gillan will appear in a recurring role.

A returning ensemble

Gillan joins a cast that is set to return in full for season 4. The ensemble includes Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, and Ted McGinley.

There had been some concern that certain characters might not carry over after the events of season 3. Co-creator Bill Lawrence has since said the entire main cast is coming back, including Ford.

Gillan is not the first major name the show has added. The series brought in Cobie Smulders and Brett Goldstein in season 2, followed by Michael J. Fox and Jeff Daniels in season 3.

Who is Karen Gillan

Gillan is perhaps best known for playing Nebula across the "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy and the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. She also stars in the rebooted "Jumanji" films, with a third entry in that franchise reportedly set to arrive later this year.

On the television side, her breakout came in "Doctor Who," and she has since appeared in shows including "Selfie" and "Douglas Is Cancelled."

What we know about season 4

Details about Gillan's character are being kept under wraps for now, so it is not yet clear how she will fit into the story.

According to Lawrence, the new season will open with a time jump and a fresh storyline, kicking off what is expected to be a multi-season arc. A premiere is currently expected in early-to-mid 2027.
