Rumored Black Apple Vision Pro

A fresh batch of images appears to show a black version of the Apple Vision Pro, though the leaker offers no claim that the color is headed to store shelves.

The photographs were posted to X on Wednesday by a Hong Kong based developer who goes by Pipfix, also known as LusiRoy8.

They follow an earlier set, shared in late May, that showed what were believed to be components for a black colored headset. A week later, the same source has returned with more.

This time the images focus on parts of the headset that the first leak left out.

What the photos show

One shot is a close up of a grille and a camera on the side of the device, which lines up with the design of the Apple Vision Pro. Other images show the connector for the battery pack, with the connector mechanism itself left uncolored, along with the top of the battery pack and a black braided cable.

A final image shows the knob used to tighten the band on the headset. Both the band and the knob appear in black.

The same account previously posted images of the side speakers, again in the black finish.

The source has a track record

Pipfix is not an unknown quantity when it comes to colors. The account is reportedly the source of accurate color information in the past, including shades of the iPhone 17 Pro.

There is a notable change in tone, however. The earlier leak briefly described the black Apple Vision Pro as "upcoming." The new post drops that framing and simply asks followers whether they like the color.

Why this is probably a prototype

While the photos are convincing, there is no guarantee that Apple plans to sell a headset in this finish. It is equally possible that the parts come from a prototype Apple built to test the color before deciding against it.

Several details point that way. The fabric around the visor does not match the pattern on Apple's current model, and the battery pack looks like it is wrapped in some kind of film/wrap.

The components do not appear to be AI renders. They look like genuine photos of black parts. But the inconsistencies suggest early prototype hardware rather than a production unit.

The band shown is the Solo strap, which points to this being a prototype of the M2 model that never reached production. With Apple selling relatively few headsets, the company would have little reason to add new color options to the lineup.

The timing works against it

The leak also arrives at an awkward moment for Apple's headset ambitions.

Apple has not commented on new color options, and earlier rumors going back to April 2025 centered on weight reduction rather than finishes. A December sighting of a black headset connector was the closest prior hint.

More importantly, Apple's broader Vision roadmap is reportedly being trimmed. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF Securities said this week that his headset and glasses roadmap from a year ago is no longer a useful reference, with the plan now pared down to two pairs of smart glasses.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman added that the Apple Vision Air was killed off in October 2025, with a display glasses project shelved earlier in the year.

The current $3,499 Apple Vision Pro is not expected to see a new hardware iteration for some time. The soonest a new model might be announced is 2028, and Apple has reportedly not communicated that to its supply chain.

For now, a black Apple Vision Pro looks far more like a road not taken than a product in waiting.
