watchOS 27 Rumors Point to Heart Rate Upgrades, New Watch Faces, and AI Additions

The first developer beta is expected to follow the keynote, with a public beta likely in July and a general release for compatible Apple Watch models in September.
Improved Heart Rate Tracking
In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that watchOS 27 will bring improvements to heart rate tracking. Gurman did not share specifics on what is changing or which Apple Watch models will benefit.
A New Modular Watch Face
Gurman has also said the update will introduce new watch faces. One of them is reportedly a version of the Modular Ultra face that has so far been exclusive to the Apple Watch Ultra, opening it up to standard Apple Watch models.
Additional Apple Intelligence Features
Apple confirmed when it announced WWDC 2026 dates that the event would showcase AI advancements across its platforms. watchOS 26 already supports Workout Buddy, Live Translation in Messages, and Notification Summaries when paired with an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, and watchOS 27 is expected to extend that list.
Expanded Satellite Features
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 supports satellite connectivity for Emergency SOS, Find My, and Messages. With iOS 27 reportedly gaining up to five new satellite features, Apple Maps via satellite and photo support in Messages via satellite could carry over to watchOS 27.
A Focus on Stability
According to Gurman, the broader theme for watchOS 27 is stability, performance, and smaller refinements rather than sweeping new capabilities.
