Apple's newly released developer betas for iOS 27 and macOS 27 contain what one prominent analyst calls the first concrete signs from Apple itself of two unannounced products, a folding iPhone and a MacBook with a touchscreen, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Writing in Sunday's edition of his "Power On" newsletter, Gurman points to a series of code references and interface changes uncovered once the betas went live.

He argues the tweaks exist specifically to support the new form factors, rather than to improve features already on sale.

Folding iPhone

The clearest indicators sit in the iOS 27 code itself. References to "foldState" and "angleDegrees," alongside mentions of multiple hardware displays, turned up in the beta. That is exactly the kind of language software would use to detect how open or closed a folding device is.

macOS 27 Golden Gate, also reworks the iPhone Mirroring app so its window can stretch far wider than before, into a layout closer to an iPad than a phone. That roughly matches the larger interior screen expected on a folding iPhone once it is opened flat.

Gurman further notes Apple's direction to developers during the WWDC keynote, where the company emphasized a concept it calls app adaptability. The idea is that apps should adjust to a range of screen sizes, a requirement that becomes more pressing if Apple is readying the squarer display rumored for the device.

Touch MacBook

For the Mac, Gurman starts with Sidecar, which in macOS 27 now accepts full touch input across the system when paired with an iPad. On its own, that could simply be a long overdue improvement to how Sidecar works. Read against the other changes, Gurman treats it as groundwork.

He also flags new support for pull to refresh in the macOS interface, a gesture borrowed from iPhones and iPads. It functions with a trackpad or mouse today, but it lends itself naturally to a touchscreen.

Lastly, the redesigned Siri Search and Ask interface on the Mac takes a pill shape that Gurman believes would suit a Dynamic Island, the cutout Apple is rumored to bring to a future MacBook with a touchscreen.

What has already been rumored

Neither product is new to the rumor mill. Gurman reported in February that touchscreen MacBook Pro models would arrive by the end of 2026, fitted with OLED displays and a Dynamic Island at the top of the screen. Other leakers have since pointed to a launch this fall.

The folding iPhone has been rumored for even longer. Its broad specifications have circulated for months, and dummy units, often a sign that a launch is close, have already started to appear. Reports place the device's debut in the fall as part of a split launch strategy Apple is expected to use for its 2026 iPhone lineup.

Gurman's note stops short of fresh rumor and instead catalogs what has surfaced during the betas, tying each discovery to a product that has been widely reported. It is not yet clear when Apple will formally announce either device, and the company has not commented. Both operating systems are expected to ship in the fall alongside Apple's usual wave of hardware launches.
