Next iPhone Air Reportedly Gains a Second Camera in Spring 2027
Bloomberg reports the next iPhone Air could add a second Ultra Wide camera and launch in spring 2027

Apple is working on a new iPhone Air that could add a second rear camera and launch in spring 2027, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The updated model is said to keep the same overall design as the current iPhone Air, with the main visible change being an extra lens on the back. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that a two camera version has reached an advanced testing phase.
Addressing the main complaint
The current iPhone Air ships with a single rear camera using a Wide lens. That has been the device's most common criticism, since it leaves the thin, premium iPhone behind the cheaper iPhone 17 on camera versatility. The iPhone 17 has two rear cameras, while the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max have three.
A second lens, reported to be an Ultra Wide, would close part of that gap and make the iPhone Air an easier device to recommend on its merits rather than its looks alone.
Battery and chip
Apple also reportedly wants to improve battery life, either by fitting a larger battery or by improving efficiency. Because the new model is said to share the current design, there may not be much room to grow the battery physically.
Instead, efficiency could do some of the work. The device is expected to use an A20 chip built on Apple's new 2nm process, which should help it run longer on the same charge.
Timing
The next iPhone Air is expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 in 2027. The iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple's foldable iPhone are expected to arrive on the more familiar September schedule.
